The Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center will be presenting a new program series happening Thursday evenings in late March and early April. This series offers three different sessions, open to people of all ages. Each one features a learning component and a hands-on crafting experience.
The first program, Paper Mosaics, is happening on March 19th from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. It offers an introduction to the world of mosaic making. Participants will learn some of the origins of this art form, along with basic terminology and tips to create a mosaic. Then they will get to decorate a picture mat frame with paper tiles.
The second session, Seed Mosaics, will happen on March 26th from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Having learned the basics the previous week, this session will focus on the traditional Mexican art of seed mosaics. Participants will get to know the seeds they are working with and learn how they were used as temporary art. Each attendee will get to create a design with seeds on a wooden plaque.
The culminating program, Glass Mosaics, will be on April 2nd from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. It will focus on modern mosaic art. Participants will get to learn about 21st century artist Isidora Paz Lopez and her mosaic creations. Then they will get to use air dry clay and glass pieces to create a coaster with a mosaic design.
Advanced registration is encouraged, as space is limited. Participants are welcome to register for one, two, or all sessions, as their schedules allow. Attending a later session is allowed even if a previous session was missed.
Each session has a program fee of $4 per person, up to $12 per family.
