Outdoor Mushroom Workshop

  • Saturday, September 12, 2026, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County will host an outdoor mushroom workshop that will identify specialty mushrooms that make sense to grow on small acreage in an outdoor forest setting.

Joshua Vrooman, Agriculture Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County, will review direct-to-consumer trends, showing that specialty farms are best positioned for local and regional sales.

Connor Youngerman, Mushroom Specialist for Cornell Small Farms Program, will highlight specialty mushrooms that make the most sense to grow in an outdoor forest environment. He will also provide an overview of other key considerations when getting started.

Tim Nicholson, co-owner of CNY Organic Farms, will provide a tour of his small farm operation, including how they got started, and what they have learned over many years.

There will be plenty of time for questions.
