If a person is able to walk, they can learn to snowshoe; there are snowshoes to fit all ages. A pair of snowshoes opens up a plethora of winter walking options along scenic snow-covered trails, so come give it a try.

Participants will begin indoors before gearing up for the walk. They will learn how snowshoes came into use and watch a demo on how to put them on and take them off. Once outside, assistance can be provided in the strapping on of snowshoes. Participants will then receive a few tips on how best to move about in their snowshoes before setting off on a guided exploration through the winter woods.

This program offers a unique opportunity to try out a new method of travel during a time of year when it can be trickier to go for hikes. Snowshoes offer a way to get outside no matter how tall the snowdrifts are!

Already own snowshoes? Not a problem! Participants are welcome to bring their own.

We ask that participants please wear hiking or outdoor boots that can handle snow and dress appropriately for the weather. Sneakers and fashion boots with heels do not fit in the snowshoe straps, making walking difficult.

This program is designed for individuals or families, not organized groups. To arrange a group program, call the Oswego County 4-H Program at (315)963-7286.

Fee

$4 per person and up to $12 per family, whether one chooses to borrow snowshoes or bring your own. Children three years old and under are free. Advanced registration is encouraged, as space is limited.
