Beneath the snow, there are many animals awaiting the return of spring. Some can be found in the ground, but others are located in the subnivean zone, the area of snow closest to the dirt. This program is designed for children and their families, providing an introduction to this special snow layer.

You will begin indoors, transitioning to a guided exploration in the woods. You'll hear the story Over and Under the Snow and children will participate in an activity to experience what it's like to be a mouse tunneling under the snow. Afterwards, everyone will gear up and head outside to search for signs of burrowing animals along our trails. If there is enough snow, you'll get to strap on some snowshoes for this! Borrow them from the center at no additional cost or bring your own.

We ask that you please wear boots that can handle the snow and dress appropriately for the weather.

Fee

$4 per person and up to $12 per family. Children three years old and under are free. Advanced registration is encouraged, as space is limited.
