DESCRIPTION:Creative crafters and basket-making enthusiasts are invited to spend a fun and productive day at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center for a hands-on basket weaving workshop led by experienced basket maker, Linda Scherz.Participants will have the opportunity to choose between weaving one of two beautiful and functional baskets: Linda's Wine Basket or Linda's Tote Basket. Both projects are suitable for beginners as well as those with basket weaving experience.Linda's Wine Basket measures approximately 5" x 10" x 7½" high (14" high with handle) and makes a wonderful gift or decorative accent for the home. The basket is woven using natural reed and seagrass and features a hardwood handle and leather rim for added beauty and durability. A woven leather divider protects bottles, making it ideal for transporting wine or specialty beverages. Linda's Tote Basket measures approximately 5" x 12" x 9-10" high and is perfect for quick shopping trips, carrying supplies, or everyday use. Students will weave a plain weave base with pre-cut spokes and create a simple side pattern using natural reed in various widths, accented with seagrass and decorative birch bark (or similar) ribbon. A sturdy webbing handle, available in several colors, completes this practical tote. All materials and tools needed to complete either basket will be provided by the instructor. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing. Baskets will not be stained during class.Whether you're creating a unique handmade gift or a basket for your own use, this workshop offers a rewarding opportunity to learn traditional basket weaving techniques while crafting something beautiful and functional.
